Restore The Beauty Of A Metal Barn Prior To Placing Crops Inside Of It

Blog

If you plan on selling crops that you grew on your farmland and would like to restore the beauty of the metal barn that is on your property so that you can use it to hold food items that will be available for purchase, remove rust from the siding and apply a base coat of primer and a couple coats of paint to the structure. Afterward, add some simple decor around and inside of the barn to draw attention to it.

You Will Need

  • metal cleaning product
  • water hose
  • bucket
  • sponge mop
  • ladder
  • rust remover (spray or gel)
  • paintbrush
  • masking tape
  • waterproof cloths
  • primer
  • paint gun
  • paint
  • string of lights
  • sign
  • bales of hay
  • potted flowers
  • large barrels
  • table

Clean The Metal Siding And Apply A Rust Remover

Dilute a metal cleaning product with water and add the cleaning solution to an empty bucket. Use a sponge mop to apply the cleaning solution to the dirty metal on the barn's exterior. If some of the metal siding is difficult to reach while standing on the ground, secure a ladder next to the barn before climbing its rungs to clean metal surfaces. Rinse the metal structure with water.

After the metal pieces have dried, apply a rust remover to corroded metal. If a gel product is being used, dip a thin paintbrush into the gel before moving the brush over rusted metal. Use an abrasive sponge or brush to scrub the corroded areas. Spray water across metal to rinse away specks of rust.

Prime, Paint, And Decorate The Barn

If there are portions of the barn's exterior that you do not plan on covering with primer or paint, cover them with wide strips of masking tape. Close the barn's door and lay waterproof cloths across the ground. After filling an electric paint gun's tank with primer, apply an even amount of primer across the metal. A primer that contains a rust-inhibitor will prevent metal siding from corroding. Rinse out the machine's tank and fill the reservoir with paint. Apply a couple coats of paint over the primed metal.

Once the barn has dried, install a string of lights across the top of the barn. Hang a large sign in front of the barn that advertises the crop sale that you are holding. Open the barn's doors and place bales of hay next to a table. Set potted plants on top of the hay. Lay crops across the table and set some large barrels in front of the table. Fill the barrels with potatoes, ears of corn, or any other crop that you are selling that you have a large amount of.

does a roofing contractor do more than roofing?

What all can a roofing company do for your home? Do roofers offer services other than roofing repair and installation? Would this be the contractor that you would call if you needed new gutters or fascia installed? How much would each of these services cost you? Having just remodeled a home from top to bottom, I have learned that there are some contractors that specialize in one service, but others that perform several different services on the home. Are you planning some big projects around your home? Visit my website to learn how I saved on labor costs by hiring a roofing contractor that did more than just roofing.
